the Brooklyn Bridge

I fell in love with the Brooklyn Bridge today.

While I was already intrigued by the readings we did in advance and by seeing it earlier this week, our speakers and films today sealed the deal!  I am so amazed at the engineering and construction of that incredible bridge, especially given the time in which it was built.  The danger, the persistence, the toll in human lives–all of it is unbelievable to me!

The ending of the Ken Burns documentary really struck me.  This bridge, which is part of our cultural history and heritage, still stands while the World Trade Center we saw behind it is gone.
